Description

The Economic Club welcomed Amy Sommers, an American lawyer with more than 30 years of involvement with China, as she discusses China’s shift from ‘strategic partner to ‘strategic competitor’ and the implications for US business.

Ms. Sommers is a member of the National Committee of US-China Relations. From 2012-16, she served on the board of directors of anti-corruption nonprofit, TRACE International, Inc.She has held a range of leadership roles in the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law, is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and in 2016 received the Mayre Rasmussen Award for the Advancement of Women in International Law from the ABA Section of International Law in recognition for her contributions.

She is an author whose most recent works include a historical thriller set in Asia in the run-up to Pearl Harbor, Rumors from Shanghai, that was published in March 2021, and an op-ed on the approach the new administration would take in China, published in December 2020: “The path to a new China policy.”
